Jupiter Cove
Production

making of:
Jupiter Cove

The crew discuss Jupiter Cove's backstory, and their experience working on the film.

summer 2022:
refined pitch

The world and characters of Jupiter Cove had been ideated in the original pitch to include both gods’ forms (mortal and immortal), as well as environments and props for both the cove and Olympus. Throughout the summer and fall quarter, these designs were honed into the final designs present in the film. Our compositor and animators created animation tests to study movement in the film.

fall 2022:
pre-production

During fall quarter, in-depth study of Jupiter Cove’s characters and environments took place. The song for Jupiter Cove was recorded and mixed, then handed to the storyboard artists. The film’s story was finalized, along with an animated proof of concept shot testing the art and animation direction for the film. Across the board, the goal was to create consistent quality. Layouts for the final story were revised and finalized by the next quarter. The song for Jupiter Cove was recorded and mixed, then handed to the storyboard artists.

winter 2023:
production

Cleanup and color were the main focuses of the winter quarter. As the animators continued to refine shots, background artists were hard at work finalizing the colors in each layout. Style guides continued to trickle in to help move the film in the right direction. Promotional stickers and ‘album cover’ style frames were also sold to raise money for future film festival admission costs.

spring 2023:
post-production

As the final film deadline approached, the compositing team led efforts on finalizing Jupiter Cove, as the last of the final animation was completed. Special emphasis was placed on perfecting the color and special effects in the film. A press kit, art book, and trailer were also created to help promote the film.
